Lokta paper is made from the bark of the "Daphne" plant, a fast-growing cultivated shrub that only grows above 6500 feet in the Himalayas.
Only the bark is harvested from the plant, in a process which is both beneficial to the plant and eco-friendly.
The paper is handmade, using simple technology and ancient skills and produced mostly by small, woman-run cooperatives.
Lokta paper is exceptionally durable, resistant to decay, free of acid, and ideal for archival applications and storage. It can be used for handmade invitations, book arts and scrap booking, printmaking, calligraphy, and many other mixed-media projects.
*** Because of the handmade nature of this paper, colors can vary slightly from batch to batch. Please order enough for your project.
